Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria, not to be confused with “La Palma”, one of the other Canary Islands. OM Yoga Las Palmas is located in the neighborhood Guanarteme, 1 minute from the beach Playa de las Canteras and the auditorium.

Las Palmas is very ‘local’, but at the same time an important hub for digital nomads and remote workers. Fast Internet, co-working spaces, great surf directly at Playa de las Canteras and a stable climate all year round with an average temperature between 20-26 degrees.

  • The shala is located at:

    Calle Simancas, 67
35010 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
    Spain

    Google Maps

  • Las Palmas has a variety of accommodation options spread over different areas. We reserved a few apartments to help those who are looking to share accommodation to reduce the costs. Check the options here

The old town of Las Palmas is more beautiful and has lots of accommodation options, but you will have to count 30 mins commuting time by bus or 15-20 mins when you share a taxi with other Yogis.

The area of Playa de las Canteras has everything you will need, it’s directly at the beach of Las Palmas, but accommodation tends to be more simple, more practical.

  • Las Palmas was specifically chosen for this course based on its accessibility. Flights to the island are relatively cheap from basically anywhere in Europe. In some cases you may find a cheaper flight to one of the other islands and take a local flight to Gran Canaria.

Public transportation is very well available, so there’s no need to rent a car (unlike the other islands). In the area of Playa de las Canteras everything can be reached by foot: the Yoga Shala, the beach, surfing, accommodation and a great variety of cafes and restaurants.

City Bikes and e-scooters can be a good alternative too if you stay further away from the Shala, they are cheap and widely available, check all information here. There’s a Moxsi station close to the Shala. (In 2023 the usage of the bikes was limited to 6am - 11pm, not sure if that’s still the case). There are also local stores for rental of e-scooters and bikes.

  • Las Palmas has -1 hour time difference with Central Europe. If you plan to keep on working during the course, you can choose to do only part of the program and not the full Intensive Course. Without Pranayama for example you could be at your desk at 08:30 CET.

Las Palmas has super fast Internet and various co-working spaces. There are weekly meet-ups for DN/RW and WhatsApp, Facebook and Slack groups for activities.

  • The average annual temperature in Las Palmas is 21.2 - 28 °C during the day and 18 °C at night. It’s recommended to bring warmer clothes for windy or cloudy days.

Gran Canaria has various micro climates, which means that on a rainy day in Las Palmas you can take a bus South and have a sunny beach day or go for a hike in the mountains.
